Laboratory "Diagnostics and Imaging of Industrial Processes" (Diagnostic et Imagerie des Procédés Industriels - DIPI) was founded in the National Engineering School in Saint-Etienne (l’Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Saint-Etienne) in 2001. The laboratory was labeled a "Host Team" (Equipe d'Accueil EA 3719) by the French Ministry of Research in the quadriennal contract 2003 – 2006, and subsequently contracted for 2007-2010.
